The Invitation

Depth by Design.

Imagine waking up on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island, with ocean, mountains, cedars, and big sky out your window. Meals appear when you’re hungry. Around you, a small group of thoughtful people are absorbed in work of their own.

For four nights and five days, we take care of you so you can take care of the thing you came to do.

You go home with real progress, an embodied memory of sustained attention, and a map back to those conditions in your everyday life.

Join us.

What Belongs Here

This is for the work that’s been waiting.

Working deeply means different things to different people. To us, it means you have a Thing: the thing the rest of your life prevents you from getting to and that matters enough to make dedicated time for.

Producing, planning, deciding, thinking, resting, and dreaming all belong here.

Make.

A manuscript, a body of work, a course, a proposal, a film, an idea.

Decide.

A strategy, a consequential choice, a stuck problem that needs time.

Reorient.

Deep reading, life systems, reflection, your next chapter.

Designed for Attention

Most people don’t need another productivity hack.

They need fewer competing demands.

The Deep End is designed around a simple idea: our environments shape what we can access in ourselves.

We want to show you what becomes possible when your Thing is the only thing on the to-do list for five whole days.

Saying yes to The Deep End means saying no to outside work.

Everyone who joins makes One Big Commitment: outside work stays outside.

From arrival to departure, no Zoom calls, client check-ins or “quick things” that pull you back into everyone else’s agenda. The lodge has excellent Wi-Fi, and you can use the tools your project needs. Your family and a genuine emergency can reach you. Ordinary work demands stay outside.

The Week

Welcome everywhere and expected nowhere.

There are two things we ask everyone to come to:

Opening dinner.
Closing breakfast.

Everything else is up to you.

Finally, your time is yours.

There are no lectures, no mandatory workshops, and no tightly facilitated daytime curriculum.

Our hosting team is available for 1:1s throughout the week. Collectively we have experience in systems thinking, strategy and visioning, conflict and transition, facilitation, coaching, community-building, creative practice, and turning ideas into action. We’re great partners in getting unstuck and moving important work forward.

A few of us are even curriculum designers. So if you want more structure, we’ll help you design it. This is the stuff we love to do.

  • 01 Monday

Arrive in the morning and settle into the property. Spend the afternoon as you wish. Thanksgiving dinner and our first salon open the experience.

  • 02 Tuesday to Thursday

All day each day, follow the thread of the thing you came to do. Work deeply, rest when you need to, take a walk, read, think, or let an idea unfold.

  • 03 Friday

Close over breakfast and check out by eleven. You’ll have the morning to work, reflect, or simply let the week settle.

After Dark

Each night the great room becomes a dinner salon: candles on, music low, dinner worth leaving your desk for, and one good question, held well. Join every night, come for part of it, or take a plate to your room.

The Place

Craidelonna OceanEdge Lodge.

Three and a half acres on Vancouver Island’s south coast, about an hour west of Victoria. A great room, decks, and outdoor work areas. A cedar sauna, a cold plunge bucket, and an outdoor shower. A hot tub with ocean views, and the trail down to the beach.

Rooms & Tuition

You’re Invited (And Who’s Invited)

You’re invited. And here’s who else is.

The two big things everyone wants to know about an experience like this are: is this for me? and, who will be there?

We’d be lying if we said we knew for sure, but we’ve got a pretty good guess.

We think this is probably for you if:

  • You’re still reading! Something here is speaking to you.
  • You have a Thing and you’re ready to dedicate five days to it.
  • You are kind. Because, excuse our french, but we have a firm No As*holes policy.
  • You’re ready to agree to our One Big Commitment: outside work stays outside.
  • You’re wrestling with some big questions that need space to breathe.
  • You’re over grind culture.
  • You are craving the kind of connection with yourself and others that can only happen slowly, beyond the demands of everyday life.

We think you’ll be surrounded by people who are:

  • Values-led founders, solopreneurs, executives, senior leaders, business partners, creatives, community organizers, and people responsible for other people.
  • Mid-career, broadly speaking.
  • Thoughtful, reflective, contemplative, and otherwise understand the value of slowing down.
  • Located in Cascadia / the Pacific Northwest.

Your Hosting Team

Five wildly capable humans. One carefully held week.

The Deep End was created by Jenn McRae and Anna McClean, and is held alongside Stina Brown, Devon Carr, and Kieren Britton.

Between us, we have led everything from intimate multi-day cohorts to gatherings of thousands. We’ve built national communities, guided people through conflict and reinvention, and hosted humans on trains, mountains, boats, and the wild edge of the Pacific.

But we don’t think a list of accomplishments tells you what it feels like to be hosted by us. So instead, let us show you.
